Foodex Japan, the most historic and important international Food & Beverage trade fair in Asia, now in its 50th edition, hosted on March 12 at the Tokyo exhibition center the conference “Mediterranean Diet, Longevity and Organic: a Bridge between Communities and Sustainable Lifestyles.”
The conference, organized by Legacoop Agroalimentare and Legacoop Emilia-Romagna, and supported by Legacoop Nazionale with co-funding from ICE Agency, featured several cooperatives representing Made in Italy Food & Beverage excellence: Conapi, Consorzio Il Biologico with its member Acetificio Carandini Emilio, Terre Cevico, Granterre, and Alce Nero, all of whom were also exhibitors at the Japanese fair.
During the event, the cooperative system highlighted the quality of Italian cooperatives’ organic production and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet. The connection between organic food and longevity was emphasized by the findings of a recent study conducted by the Department of Biodynamics and Prevention at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, promoted by Federbio and Assobio.
At the end of the seminar, Legacoop organized a show cooking session at the Italy Pavilion, where buyers and local media were able to taste a selection of Italian organic products—particularly from Emilia-Romagna—and learn more about the participating Italian cooperatives.
The Japanese organic market represents an increasingly attractive opportunity for cooperatives in the sector. The initiative at Foodex helped to establish new connections and channels of exchange between products and cultures.
In the International Year of Cooperatives, it is part of Legacoop’s broader international promotion strategy leading up to participation in Expo Osaka 2025 with dedicated events.
