Staori Ecotours’ Green Transition: A Practical Approach to Sustainable Tourism in Crete

Staori Ecotours is a social cooperative based on the island of Crete, Greece, dedicated to promoting ecotourism.

As part of the SKI.F.T. project, the cooperative aimed to strengthen the sustainability of its operations by taking practical steps toward a green transition. This process involved identifying and addressing key areas for improving sustainability within the organization.

To support this goal, Staori partnered with the service provider BehaviourSMART to implement a customized programme—an intensive training designed to explore current sustainability trends and deliver actionable strategies to integrate more sustainable practices into both the company’s business model and service offering.

Key outputs from the initiative included:

  • Training sessions on sustainability trends and strategic approaches;
  • A prioritisation framework for sustainability actions according to the company needs;
  • Tailored coaching and consultancy on developing a workplan;
  • A brief communication strategy to support external engagement.

The green transition process enabled Staori Ecotours to gain valuable insight into how sustainability trends are shaping the tourism industry, as well as to better understand where and by whom sustainable choices should be made—whether by the company itself or by its visitors.

Reflecting on the outcomes of this journey, the Staori team demonstrated a strong commitment to embracing sustainability, with the clear intention of influencing both suppliers and partners to follow suit.

The project was funded by Legacoop Emilia-Romagna with a contribution of €6,700 and supported by Demetra Formazione.
